Social burial - social welfare office
The term "social burial" refers to a burial of the deceased, for the surviving dependents or contractually obligated third parties (e.g. heirs appointed by testament, obligation from a death insurance) for the costs of the burial neither from the inheritance nor from one's own financial means (income and assets) can pay for themselves. In these cases, the social welfare office can, according to § 74 SGB XII, cover the necessary costs for a simple local burial in whole or in part if the requirements are met.
Assumption of costs for anonymous burials and for deaths in which no relatives can be identified does not fall under the provisions of § 74 SGB XII. The public order office of the state capital Dresden (department for security matters) is responsible for this.
